Jacob Ouma

Jacob Ouma is the Managing Director at Admedia Communications Limited, a company he co-founded in 2008 based in Kenya which does communications consultancy, production and marketing services across the African region.

He is a Mandela Washington Fellow, having participated in the inaugural cohort of the President Obama initiated Young African Leadership Initiative(YALI) program in 2014 at the Presidential Precinct in the University of Virginia and College of William and Mary in the Virginia, US, Civic Leadership track. He was awarded among the Top 40 Under 40 Most Influential Men in Kenya by the Business Daily (Nation Media) newspaper in 2015 for his works in the community. He co-founded the Pan African Leadership Incubator (PALI) that trains individuals in the special interest groups category that seek to pursue political leadership and governance and spearheads community projects to solve water shortage challenges.

Jacob also runs a tablets-to-pupils program that donates tablets to schools for learning purposes in the slums of Kibera and is a National and Global Peace Ambassador with Global Peace Foundation (GPF), World Collegiate Association for Research of Principles (W-CARP) and Youth Federation for World Peace (YFWP). He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Projects Management at the University of Roehampton London Online and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Public Health degree from Kenyatta University.

She earned a Bachelor Degree in International Politics and International History, and a Master’s degree in Modern European History from Aberystwyth University. She focuses on Czechoslovak history and society during the late normalization and early post-1989 period. Last year, she completed a PhD at Aberystwyth University looking at secondary school education and society in transition between 1980-2010. 

Ahmed Rachid El-Khattabi

The focus of his work is on managerial and technological innovation in the water sector, water conservation programs, urban water pricing, and demand for irrigation. He received his Master’s in Economics from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2016. Originally from Morocco, Ahmed has also lived in California and Illinois, where he attended and graduated from Stanford University in 2010 and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2013.

Thomas Richter

Thomas Richter is a Senior Advisor at political consultancy IDA Group. He also represents German chemicals company LANXESS AG as EU Public Policy Manager in Brussels. As Development Officer, Thomas also leads all partnerships for Young Professionals in Foreign Policy Brussels. Prior to starting with IDA Group in 2011, Thomas worked for Peter Altmaier, the current Germany Minister of the Economy, as well as spending time in the Permanent Representation of Germany to the EU and the U.S. House of Representatives gaining in-depth knowledge of the political processes in Europe, Germany and the United States. Thomas holds a master’s degree in international studies and diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies as well as a BA in Conflict, Peace and Security from the University of Kent.

Jo Ann is a Senior Policy Analyst with the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, a leading policy and advocacy think tank based in Ghana with focus on the extractive sector.

She obtained her bachelor’s degree in economics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Master of science in Energy Economics and Policy, with distinction, from the University of Surrey, UK. Her research interests include the impact of oil prices on the economy of Ghana, value for money analysis on the utilization of petroleum revenues, promoting energy access for sustainable development and rural electrification via renewable energy. Jo Ann is the co-founder of the Love’s Closet Foundation, an NGO that focuses on supporting childcare and childhood development. She is also an actress who has starred in many stage plays and a tv family comedy series.

Ibraheem Sanusi

Citizen's Engagement Lead, African Union Commission, Nigeria

Ibraheem Sanusi is the Citizen’s Engagement Lead and a Governance Expert at the African Governance Architecture (AGA) Secretariat based at the African Union Commission’s Department of Political Affairs.

Through his leadership of the citizens’ engagement work of the AGA, the AU launched the ‘#DGTrends’ – Democratic Governance Trends as a trend monitoring tool aimed at broadening African citizen’s engagement and interaction with the AU Organs and Institutions with democratic governance mandates. Since 2013 till date, the DGtrends campaign has focused on galvanising citizen’s support for the AU Agenda 2063 and particularly its aspirations for democracy, peace and prosperity. Through the online and physical consultations, several programmes and initiatives including cross-regional collaborations have been recorded.

Ibraheem is also instrumental to the development of the AGA - Youth Engagement Strategy (AGA-YES) developed as a strategic framework for the engagement of young people in democratic governance processes at the Regional Economic Communities and the African Union. Through the implementation of the strategy, an annual youth consultation has been institutionalized as a deliberate platform for engaging young people in AU’s democratic governance policy initiatives. Ibraheem is also a 2015 Alumni of the International Visitors Leadership Programme, a 2017 Inductee (Delegate) of the Academy of Achievement and a 2018 Fellow of the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), United States.

Aside from her professional experience at the public domain, Daniela is the Youth Chair of the Latin American Association for Energy Economics (ALADEE), regional chapter of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE); and a member of the Argentine Council for International Relations’ Youth Group (CARI), one of the most prestigious think tanks in the Hispanic world and Chair Organization of the T20 2018.

Scarlett Varga

Scarlett Varga, of Hungarian and Romanian origin, is Deputy Head of Development at Bruegel. Her mission is to nurture existing and develop new strategic partnerships with private foundations and leading research institutes and think tanks, with special focus on Asia, Latin America and the EU neighborhood.

Scarlett Varga also contributes to the management of the visiting fellowship program. Prior to working at Bruegel, she worked in the solar energy industry on research and industry-led projects. She worked and travelled extensively in Latin America, setting up energy cooperatives in the Atacama region and Patagonia. She is trained in Economics and Business (BSc) and the European Union Financing Schemes (MA). Scarlett is member of the Steering Committee of the Brussels Binder, the initiative aimed at increasing female voices in European policy debates. 
She speaks fluent Hungarian, Romanian, English, Spanish, French and she studies beginner level Chinese. 

Kevin Vuong
