Despite its marginal contribution to the historical growth in greenhouse gas emissions, the African continent could be one of the most vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change. Beyond adaptation needs, the importance climate change mitigation is now given full recognition in economic development agendas, with the ambition to facilitate leap frogging in emerging economies and avoid worsening current global emission trajectories. Besides, climate action is also an opportunity for Africa to grasp the strong and diverse “climate co-benefits” in terms of economic performance, energy security and quality of life.

On 7-9 November 2018, Bruegel and the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania held the Global Think Tank Summit 2018 in Brussels. The event gathered a hundred executives from the most influential Think Tanks around the world and featured panels on topics of global importance.

Migration has emerged as a central theme on the international policy agenda over the past decade. On the one hand, the arrival in 2015 of thousands of migrants, mainly from the Middle East but also from Africa, has caused an unprecedented crisis in relations between the Member States of the European Union. On the other hand, African countries have expressed, during the recent Summit of the African Union, their willingness to develop a common African vision on Migration, which materialized in the creation of the African Observatory on Migration, to be headquartered in Morocco.

OCP Policy Center organise la présentation du rapport Cyclope 2018 « Le ciel rayonne, la terre jubile ». Ce rapport, dans sa 32ème édition, traite l’évolution des marchés des matières premières sous la direction de Philippe Chalmin, Président et Fondateur de CyclOpe, principal institut de recherches européen sur les marchés des matières premières et qui publie chaque année le rapport CyclOpe sur l’économie et les marchés mondiaux. M. Chalmin est professeur d’histoire économique à l’Université Paris-Dauphine où il dirige le Master Affaires Internationales. Il est aussi Membre du Conseil d’Analyse Economique auprès du Premier Ministre et Président de l’Observatoire de la Formation des prix et des Marges Alimentaires auprès du Ministre de l’Agriculture et du Ministre de l’Economie et des Finances, depuis sa nomination en octobre 2010. M. Chalmin est diplômé d’HEC, Agrégé d’histoire et Docteur ès lettres.

The Africa Economic Development Policy Initiative (AEDPI) and OCPPC Policy Center are  jointly launching the first edition of the “Morocco-Nigeria Strategic Dialogues: Growth, Development, and Sectoral Complementarities”. The initiative aims to implement a platform for dialogue on topics related to economic development of African countries, partnerships in the energy sector, the mobilization of financial resources and the role of youth.  The ‘’Morocco-Nigeria Strategic Dialogues’’ will constitute an opportunity to further explore the inputs of Morocco and Nigeria, as two strategic players within the African continent. The partnership between AEDPI and OCPPC plays a pivotal role in bridging the two countries, and places both institutions as catalyzers of ideas and knowledge related to Morocco and Nigeria.
