Keep me informedIn partnership with OCP Policy Center, the Compagnia di San Paolo, and Noble Energy, the German Marshall Fund of the United States held its 10th Mediterranean Strategy Group (MSG) meeting in Naples, Italy under the theme “The United States & The Mediterranean: Past, Present and Future”.
MSG is the core convening activity of GMF’s Mediterranean policy program and the theme of this meeting was the evolving role of the U.S. in the Mediterranean, addressing topics such as trade and investment, regional security, and the outlook for transatlantic partnership in the Mediterranean. Around 40 experts and officials from the public and private sectors on both sides of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean met for two days of informal roundtable style discussion under the Chatham House rule.

This seminar consists of three modules. Its broad objective is to provide the participants with deep insights on the current state of the global economy and its economic and policy implications for emerging and developing countries. The first module will examine what is at stake with the ongoing large trade negotiations, offer an assessment of their potential impact on the world trade system, and identify the challenges and policy options for countries that are excluded from these processes. The second module will present a long term view of the global economy and the implications of its foreseeable evolution on global governance and development policy. The third module will discuss the current state of the economy, identify the short term risks, and delve into the policy options available for developing countries.
