Along with other 108 countries in the world, Morocco is currently classified by the World Bank as a middle-income country (MIC), an income category that accounts for five of the world’s seven billion people and 73 percent of the world’s poor people.   This presentation will review the reasons why historically it is so difficult to graduate from this income category—over the last half century, only two countries were able to go through the low and middle-income categories to join the high income group. The discussion will focus on issues facing the MICs today and some concrete policy measures taken by the successful countries.  Emphasis will be on practical recommendations for policy makers.

Call for Papers: Gender and Time-Budget: Profiles, indicators and methods of analysis

Contexte: 

Depuis le début des années 90, les enquêtes sur les budgets-temps ne cessent d’occuper une importante place dans l’architecture des statistiques sociales. A cet effet, plus de 60 pays dans le monde se sont engagés à mener de tels projets pour élaborer un « Compte Satellite » dédié aux ménages. Dans ce sens, ces dispositifs se révèlent d’une grande efficacité dans la mesure où ils facilitent l’évaluation du travail fourni par les ménages en distinguant ses dimensions marchande et non marchande.

ROME MED – MEDITERRANEAN DIALOGUES is an annual high-level initiative organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ISPI (Italian Institute for International Political Studies). The event aims to draft a “positive agenda” for the  Mediterranean region by stimulating debate and new ideas, rethinking traditional approaches and addressing shared challenges at both the regional and the international level.

The Millennium Campus Conference  which has previously been hosted at the United Nations, Harvard, and MIT takes place, for the first time, out side of the United States for its 9^th edition. Organized conjointly by the Moroccan Millennium Leaders and the Millennium Campus Network this three days conference envision a future of sustainability and peace, one where every individual has the opportunity to realize their human potential. During this event, young leaders will learn about sustainable development and interfaith dialogue among other subjects and will have the opportunity to share their opinions and meet other participants and world class practitioners and advocates coming from 30 different countries.
