High level Seminar on Migration under the theme: “Migration: Reconciling North and South Visions”

Ryad Business Center – South, 4th Floor, Mahaj Erryad, Rabat, Morocco

Migration has emerged as a central theme on the international policy agenda over the past decade. On the one hand, the arrival in 2015 of thousands of migrants, mainly from the Middle East but also from Africa, has caused an unprecedented crisis in relations between the Member States of the European Union. On the other hand, African countries have expressed, during the recent Summit of the African Union, their willingness to develop a common African vision on Migration, which materialized in the creation of the African Observatory on Migration, to be headquartered in Morocco.

In this context, Morocco will be hosting The Intergovernmental Conference that will adopt formally the (Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration), negotiated by UN Member States in the framework of the General Assembly and adopted by consensus on the 13th of July. As it did for the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, Morocco will strive to foster a consensus for the implementation of the Global Compact.

Considering this important international event, OCP Policy Center , in partnership with the Ministry in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs and IEMED would like to offer a platform for a high-level discussion under the theme “Migration: Reconciling North and South Visions”. This seminar will gather think tanks, civil society and officials from the North and the South in order to cross experiences of origin, transit, and host countries of migration. Moreover, it would be a timely opportunity to highlight all partner think tank’s research on this topic. The outcome will consist of a policy report which will be drafted and presented at a side event during the Marrakesh conference.
