2020 Virtual MENA Think Tank Summit – Think Tanks & Civil Societies Program

Dr. Karim El Aynaoui will be speaking at the panel “The Post Pandemic Renaissance: An Era of Resilient, Responsive and Inclusive Government” during the 2020 edition of TTCSP’s MENA Think Tank Summit.

When the Great Black Plague in Europe ended it ushered in the Great Renaissance which was characterized by transformative innovations in art, politics, literature. economics and the social order. Some have suggested that COVID19 pandemic will have the effect but on a global scale. The failures of government and experts to predict and prepare society for the devastating impact of the pandemic have put pressure on government and policymakers and to quote the Biden campaign to “build back better”. The catastrophic impact of the crisis has disrupted and transformed all our lives and livelihoods which suggest we may experience a similar transformative period of social change. This panel will explore whether this is likely or possible in Africa and what it might mean for the region.
