Book launch by Minister Arkebe Oqubay

By invitation

The Policy Center for the New South is pleased to host the book launch of H.E. Arkebe Oqubay, Senior Minister and Special Adviser to the Ethiopian Prime Minister on Thursday, October 10th, 2019 at 10:00.

Minister Oqubay will be presenting three of his latest books:

China-Africa and an Economic Transformation, which considers China-Africa relations in the context of a global division of labor and power, and through the history and experiences of both China and Africa. It examines the core ideas of structural transformation, productive investment and industrialization, international trade, infrastructure development, and financing.

How Nations Learn: Technological Learning, Industrial Policy, and Catch-up, which examines how nations learn by reviewing key structural and contingent factors that contribute to dynamic learning and catch-up. It highlights also the importance of technological learning at firm level, policy learning by state, and understanding the context in which successful learning occurs.

The Oxford Handbook of the Ethiopian Economy, which studies Ethiopia’s unique model of development, where the state plays a central role, and where a successful industrialization drive has challenged the long-held erroneous assumption that industrial policy will never work in poor African countries.

The event will take place at 10:00 and will be held at the headquarters of the Policy Center for the New South, located at: Suncity Complex, Building C, angle Addolb Avenue and Albortokal Street, Hay Riad, Rabat.
