John Sawers

Earlier in his career, he was posted to Washington, South Africa, Syria and Yemen. Sir John became Chairman and Partner at Macro Advisory Partners after he left public service in 2014, until he set Newbridge Advisory, his own company. He studied at the universities of Nottingham, St Andrews and Harvard. In addition to his corporate work, he has pro bono roles with King’s College London, Chatham House, the Royal United Services Institute, the Bilderberg Association, the Ditchley Foundation and Sevenoaks School.

Executive Chairman of Newbridge Advisory, a firm he founded in 2019 to advise corporate leaders on geopolitics and political risk, he is also a Non-Executive Director of British Petroleum (BP). Before heading the Secret Intelligence Service (2009-14), Sir John Sawers was the UK Ambassador to the United Nations (2007-09), political Director and main board member of the Foreign Office (2003-07), special representative in Iraq (2003), ambassador to Egypt (2001-03) and foreign policy adviser to the Prime Minister (1999-01).
