Hung Tran

Former Deputy Director for the Monetary and Capital Markets Department at the IMF (2001-07), Chairman of the Editorial Committee of the IMF Global Financial Stability Report (GFSR), he was Managing Director, Chief Economist and Global Head of Research for Rabobank International in London (1998-2001), and served the Deutsche Bank (1987-98) as Director of Global Fixed Income Research from New York, Co-Founding Managing Director of Research GmbH in Frankfurt and Head of Equity Business in Asia-Pacific, Singapore. He began his career with Merrill Lynch (1984-87) and Salomon Brothers (1979-1984) in New York, and is a graduate in Economics and Accounting from California State University, Fullerton and NYU.

From 2007 until retirement in 2018, Mr. Tran was at the Institute of International Finance (IIF), as Executive Managing Director from 2012 while simultaneously leading the Global Capital Markets Department. During 2011-12, he played an important role coordinating the negotiations in order to restructure the Greek debt. As Counsellor and Senior Director of the Capital Markets and Emerging Markets at the IIF, he was responsible for the Institute’s market policy research.
