Prior to joining government, he worked as a research assistant in the Foreign Policy Studies program at the Brookings Institution from 2005 to 2009. During the 2008 presidential elections, he worked on arms control and non-proliferation issues for the Obama campaign. Gelman holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a master’s degree in security policy studies from George Washington University.
