Advanced Training in Agricultural Economics & Environment - Agriculture Production and Environmental Economics

OCP Policy Center, Rabat.

The course focuses on explaining the linkages between agriculture and the natural environment and how the two interact in various negative and positive ways, including the process of climate change. The course will also introduce learners to alternative policy options and instruments for intervention to mitigate the negative and enhance the positive impacts of agricultural production on the environment and manage the potential hazards of climate change

Objectives :

• Understand the nature and dynamics of the linkages between agricultural production and the natural environment and how agriculture negatively and positively impacts the environment;
• Learn the principles of market and non-market valuation of the direct and indirect impacts of agricultural production on the environment;
• Learn how to apply valuation techniques to integrating environmental values into public policy and decision making regarding management of and investment in agricultural production;
• Gain Knowledge of alternative environmental economics policy measures for correcting externalities of agricultural production on the environment;
• Understand how agricultural production contributes to and is affected by climate.

  • Rashid Hassan

    Pr. Rashid Hassan is currently Professor and Director of the Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy in Africa at the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, University of Pretoria. He holds a PhD in Economics from Iowa State University, USA. He has served as a member of many advisory boards and committees.
