Atlantic Currents Roundtable Presentation

Al Akhawayn University, Ifrane

The OCP Policy Center and the Akhawayn University in Ifrane are pleased to announce a roundtable presentation of the Atlantic Currents report. This report is the result of a close collaboration between the OCP Policy Center and The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) and is a companion to the Atlantic Dialogues, our annual forum in Morocco. Both activities are part of a multi-year partnership to promote dialogue and analysis on issues affecting the wider Atlantic — Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, and the United States — as well as global stakeholders in Atlantic affairs.

The Atlantic Currents gathers contributions by different authors to study implications of increased interactions among countries of the Atlantic basin. The authors’ highlighted disparities but also elements of convergence between those countries.

The overall goal of the publication was to extend the debate around transatlantic issues and stimulate new thinking about ‘Atlanticism’. It also aimed at reshaping understanding of the Atlantic space in economic, political, and security terms.

The roundtable will take place on Wednesday 25 November from 6 to 8pm at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane and will showcase the analytical work that has been undertaken to produce the Atlantic Currents. It will address various Wider Atlantic topics such as private sector and sustainable development in Africa, culture and counter-extremism and economy in the Atlantic basin. Through the discussions, speakers will explore paths for cooperation in the Atlantic, especially African countries on a wide array of issues discussed in the report. The need for a more inclusive Atlantic will become clear as it will help countries achieve their development and hold a strategic position in the competitive environment. In addition, the roundtable will set elements of potential cooperation between Northern and Southern countries but also between Southern countries themselves.
